With the plethora of tools and shiny objects available for creative coding, it makes me think about how this mirrors surfing. Back in the day surfers would shape their own boards and dream of all kinds of different way to surf longer (e.g. the first wetsuits). The goal of progression drove new creations like thrusters and modern shortboard shapes. I feel like now it's gotten to a point where there is almost too much being created right now. There's always a new board model being launched or new gear to buy.
In a way this mimics tech and how we jump from stacks or products based on what's going viral on X at the moment. Should we just embrace more of an 'old school surfer' mentality and work on building our own tools that fit our workflow the best? Do we have a real connection with the things that we use everyday? I had a friend who shaped his own board and it rode like shit, but for some reason he ripped on it. Maybe it's less about using the cool new thing and more the thing that we build ourselves that works best for us?
